Making Connections, Discovering Belonging
Today was day one of our first-ever RootsTech in London, and what a day it was! Connections were made, and people found family, community, and belonging. And we’re just getting started!
General Session
Thursday’s general session began with a welcome from our RootsTech host, Nick Barratt from Who Do You Think You Are. Barratt then introduced the session keynote speaker, popular television personality and historian Dan Snow.
Dan’s energy filled the stage as he regaled us with tales of family, connection, loss, reconnection, and the ultimate story—that of the human family.
Dan shared, “If you've done the archival work, the next step is to get out and walk the ground. The picture is not complete unless you've seen it yourself.”
Exhibition Hall
The Exhibition Hall opened from 9:45 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and was abuzz with activity throughout the day. Genealogists both new and experienced mixed and mingled with vendors, working together to solve genealogical problems, answer questions, and break through those genealogical walls we’ve all hit.
What’s Happening Tomorrow
The inspiring British Para athlete and four-time Paralympic medalist Kadeena Cox takes to the stage tomorrow, Friday, October 25. She will be joined by the charismatic FamilySearch International CEO, Steve Rockwood. Cox and Rockwood will share with us their powerful keynote messages.
Cox was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) in 2014. She did not, however, let this stop her from achieving her athletic aspirations. Cox went on to win gold at Paralympic games and world championships. She has been named a part of Team Citi, which will compete in the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. Cox will share her incredible story about overcoming adversity on the RootsTech London stage.
The Friday, October 25 keynote address begins at 11:00 a.m.
