As RootsTech 2023 is fast approaching, the RootsTech and FamilySearch team is in the midst of preparing top quality learning experiences for attendees around the world.

In preparation for the 13th RootsTech, FamilySearch’s emphasis on learning is as strong as ever. Learning is one of the core elements of RootsTech conferences and is an element that is of great value to attendees. This 2023 conference is no different. The RootsTech team has been coordinating amazing classes and speakers all year long, tailoring their selections to the needs and wants of their audience of millions worldwide.

At rootstech.org you can dive into the learning that RootsTech offers. On the site you can find an on-demand library of over 1,500 sessions in over 30 languages on 185 topics relating to genealogy. The RootsTech team works tirelessly to provide you with this diverse assortment of knowledge right at your fingertips, so you can learn at any time and in any place.

What's New at RootsTech 2023?

The learning pillar of RootsTech 2023 is an experience you won’t want to miss. Rhett Dabling, RootsTech Learning Manager, says, “RootsTech offers hundreds of classes designed to help people all over the world, from all backgrounds and skill levels, to discover family and make connections. We will have great content both in person and online. This year, we will have 180 new in-person classes and about 200 new online classes. We will even broadcast some of the live classes to the online audience. That way, you will be able to participate in some of the in-person classes online and join in the excitement of the in-person experience. Whether you are new to family history or have been involved for years, RootsTech 2023 has something for you.” We are very excited to announce some of our renowned speakers who will be sharing their knowledge with us throughout our 2023 conference. Diahan Southard, Founder of Your DNA Guide, will be presenting exciting information from her 20 plus years of genetic genealogy experience. Genealogy became deeply personal to her when she discovered her mother’s birth parents and a connection to new relatives.

Nick Barratt
Dr Nick Barratt is an author, broadcaster and historian best known for his work on BBC’s Who Do You Think You Are. He is the Director of Learner and Discovery Services at the Open University, a teaching fellow at the University of Dundee and a fellow of the Royal Historical Society.

Blaine Bettinger, Ph.D., J.D., is a professional genealogist specializing in DNA evidence. He is the author of “The Genetic Genealogist,” one of the first blogs dedicated to genetic genealogy, and of “The Family Tree Guide to DNA Testing and Genetic Genealogy.” He also co-authored the award-winning Genetic Genealogy in Practice, the world’s first genetic genealogy workbook.

David Allen Lambert
David is the Chief Genealogist of the New England Historic Genealogical Society, a position he has held since 1993. He is an international speaker and author on the topics of genealogy and military history. David is the co-host of “Extreme Genes Podcast and Radio” and co-host of “Virtual Historians” video podcast.

Myko Clelland
Myko Clelland is genealogist, spokesperson, and regional licensing manager for Findmypast. Myko regularly discusses family history on television, radio, online, and in print. He holds a Masters degree in genealogy (distinction) and is a qualified adult education teacher with over 500 worldwide speaking appearances from Oxford University to The National Archives (UK).

Judy G. Russell, The Legal Genealogist®, is a genealogist with a law degree. She writes, teaches, and lectures on a wide variety of genealogical topics, providing expert guidance through the murky territory where law and family history intersect. She holds credentials as a certified genealogist and certified genealogical lecturer from the Board for Certification of Genealogists®.
Cheri Hudson
Cheri Hudson Passey
Cheri Hudson Passey is a professional genealogist, instructor, writer, speaker, and the owner of Carolina Girl Genealogy, LLC. Cheri is the host of the YouTube genealogy chat show “GenFriends” and a genealogical researcher for US Army Past Conflict Repatriations. Cheri is also an instructor with the In-Depth Genealogist Academy.
