Even though many of our Wiki contributors are intermediate to advanced genealogists, we can be encouraging “rookies” to get started. An article that could help them is titled, “Rookie Mistakes.” It’s a good article for beginners and a great reminder for some of the more experienced researchers. Lee Drew has written an article for his blog regarding this Wiki page. He states, “Rookies think that all they have to do is search for and copy information on the Internet. Everything on the net is true and correct … Right? It is OK to wholesale steal the research that others have done and then claim and publish it as our own work …. Right?
No it isn’t OK. No, everything on the Internet isn’t correct. In fact, in many cases the info on it is simply one genealogy thief parroting the information from another genealogy thief.”
He goes on to give good tips to rookies and discusses the Wiki article. If you’re working with a Rookie, this is valuable information for him or her and a good reminder for the more advanced researcher.
