Reserve Temple Ordinances from the Descendancy View

Updates_FamilyTree

You can now reserve temple ordinances from the Descendancy view! And on the Descendancy view, it’s easy to see which descendants of your ancestors might need ordinances.

Users with an LDS account now see a green temple icon for people who might need temple ordinances.

How to Reserve Ordinances from the Descendancy View

1. To reserve the ordinances, click the temple icon. The system displays a small Request Ordinances screen that shows what ordinances could be reserved.

Tips: If you don’t want to reserve the ordinances for a person, click the box with a check mark by the person’s name. The system removes the check mark and does not reserve those ordinances.

Also, if you click the Expand All link, the system displays the same information in a different format.

Important: When you click the temple icon, Family Tree also checks the person’s spouse and parents. If the spouse or parents need ordinances, they are also listed on the Request Ordinances screen.

The system will also indicate if there are possible duplicates for the person.

2. If there are possible duplicates, click the Possible Duplicates link, and check to see if the temple work has already been done.

3. If the temple ordinances are needed, to reserve the ordinances, click the Request button.

The system displays the temple ordinance policy page.

Remember: If a person was born in the last 110 years you can reserve the ordinances only if you are the closest living relative or you have permission to do the ordinances from the closest living relative.

4. Scroll down, click the box to indicate that you have read and will comply with the Church Temple Ordinance Policy.

5. Click the Add to Temple Ordinance List button.

The system then takes you to the reserved ordinances process.

Why We’re Excited about This New Feature

Using the Descendancy view and the new Reserve Ordinances feature, you can display all of an ancestors’ descendants and scroll down the page to find the temple icons.

How to Display All the Descendants of an Ancestor in the Descendancy View

When you put an ancestor in the main position in the Descendancy view, you can easily display all of the ancestor’s descendants who are in Family Tree.

1. At the top left of the page, in the View box, click the triangle pointing down. The list of possible views is displayed.

2. Click Descendancy. By default, you will appear as the person in the main position.

3. To put another ancestor in the main position, click Expand at the top left of the screen. More generations of ancestors are displayed. (You want to choose an ancestor whose children or grandchildren were born more than 110 years ago.)

4. Click the Select button for the ancestor. That ancestor will now appear in the main position where you can see his or her descendants.

5. To choose an ancestor even more generations back, repeat the process.

6. To display the ancestor’s descendants, scroll down the page clicking all of the triangles that point to the right (>). That displays the spouses and the children. When you have all the descendants displayed, scroll down the page again and watch for temple icons.

7. Reserve the ordinances. Remember, if there is an indication that there may be possible duplicates, check the possible duplicates before you click the Request button.

8. To look for more ordinances, put a different ancestor into the main position and repeat the process.
