Point Them to the Temple

This post covers the penultimate principle of the Find, Take, Teach helper process:

Invite them to complete the temple ordinances. Where possible, invite them to involve other family members in their temple service.

The culmination of family history blessings is found at the temple. It does not help our kindred dead to create long lists of reservations if ultimately their ordinance work doesn’t get done. Effective consultants understand this and actively point people to the temple.  Helping people find family names and then take those names to the temple gives members “both halves of the blessing” as President Howard W. Hunter taught.

Tips

  • Show members how to print temple cards at home. Seeing the actual cards with ancestor names on them can motivate people to go to the temple. This video shows you how.
  • If members aren’t able to attend a temple, show them how to share their family names with other family members who can perform the ordinances or share them directly with the temple. Read more about how to share names here and here (video).
  • Encourage families to take family names to the temple as families. For example, you could suggest that the entire family find a name, and then together they go to the temple.
  • Work with your high priests group leader to organize temple trips in the ward where as many members as possible can bring family names. Temple trips can be a great catalyst for inviting members to engage others in this work.
