As a stake indexing director, you have many responsibilities. They include:
- Set an example by participating in all aspects of family history and temple work.
- Counsel with priesthood leaders.
- Recruit indexing volunteers (in all indexing languages, where possible).
- Train and support indexers and arbitrators.

At FamilySearch, we recognize that your calling is very demanding. Your first line of support for your calling should be within your own stake. However, sometimes you cannot find all the help you need and could use another hand. We have been working on some really great support resources to assist you with those demands. Perhaps the best resources are the new outreach support missionaries.
Outreach support missionaries “reach out” over the phone or by email monthly to see how they can help. You can also contact them directly in between contacts. They are uniquely assigned to each indexing director so that you can have one-on-one interaction with the same person over time. Their objectives include:
- Getting to know you better so they can personalize the support you receive.
- Showing you some of the newest tools and resources available for your calling.
- Helping you use the latest tools to find your family names.
- Teaching you how to work with priesthood leaders for direction in your calling.
- Sharing ideas that others in your calling have found to be successful.
- Answering your questions and helping you to find the best solutions.
Many of you have already been contacted by an outreach support missionary. We are working to provide each stake indexing director with an outreach support missionary by the end of 2016. When an outreach support missionary is assigned to you, he or she will send an introduction email and schedule a time to meet over the phone. We encourage you to meet with him or her to see how he or she can help you meet the objectives established by your priesthood leaders.
