New and Improved: The Family History Center Operations Guide

New and Improved

We are pleased to announce that the Family History Center Operations Guide: United States and Canada has been revised and in the process of being approved. The new 2015 edition will be in English on the Family History Center Directors page on lds.org/fhcdirector. From time to time, check to see if we've added it to the website. As Spanish and French language translations of the United States and Canada version are completed, they will be added to the site as well.

The Operations Guide is the basic handbook for operating a family history center. The guide has been brought up-to-date to reflect the new emphasis on the Find, Take, Teach direction for family history. It has also been simplified in many respects.

New text has been added to the revised guide, outmoded text and graphics have been deleted, and textual edits have been made throughout. Here are highlights of the revisions you will find in the new edition:

  • A new chapter, “Purpose of a Family History Center,” was added. This chapter discusses the principles of Find, Take, Teach and how to apply them in family history centers. It discusses discovery experiences and how they can engage families in family history.
  • Outmoded charts were deleted, including those listing types of family history centers; authorized furnishings and equipment; and computer software.
  • The “My Family: Stories That Bring Us Together” booklet was added to the list of available resources.
  • The index was deleted.

We encourage you to become familiar with the May 2015 edition of the Family History Center Operations Guide.
