President Henry B. Eyring suggested that we can measure our success in family history by asking a simple question: “How broadly does whatever I am doing draw someone into service for the Lord Jesus Christ to offer ordinances to their ancestors in the spirit world?” (Family History Department Devotional, May 2007.)
Helping members to feel the Spirit is a powerful way to draw them in and family stories are a key to inviting that Spirit. A recent webinar for family history consultants explained how stories help spark interest and build enthusiasm for family history. Some of the ideas discussed were:
- Start with stories. Share an inspiring story about one of your ancestors then invite others to share stories about their ancestors.
- Complete the booklet, My Family: Stories That Bring Us Together.
- Help others, especially new members, to also complete the booklet.
- Help others transfer information from the booklet to their Family Tree and prepare Family Ordinance Request forms.
You can watch the webinar recording as well as download the presentation slides for your own use. You can also download the handout.
