If you’re just getting started with your family history research and feel like you need some help, there are 4 great videos posted on YouTube you should see. These are easy to follow videos that were created for the beginner. They assume you know little or nothing about doing genealogy research. In most cases, you will be starting your own research after the very first video. All 4 videos are under 4 minutes in length, so you’re not investing a lot of time to learn these simple but valuable research skills. They’re fun to watch and easy to follow.
The 4 videos you'll find on YouTube include the following:
- Finding Easy Information
- Record and Share Your Family History
- Finding Challenging Information
- Using FamilySearch.org
Another great feature these videos offer is the ability to turn on and off captions to match the audio. Using the buttons on the control bar on the bottom of the view screen, you can view the written text of the audio.
Another great advantage of using the captions feature is that you can change the language preferences to make the captions appear in any one of 53 languages. So, regardless of what language you are most comfortable with, these videos can accommodate your needs. You cannot change the audio files for the videos but you can change all of the captions. So, with the click of a button you can turn the captions on and off and you can change them to appear in the language of your choice.
