Don’t know how to begin your Swiss research? Have you lost your Swiss Miss somewhere in the Alps and don’t know where that family name might be found in Switzerland? You will learn how to find where Swiss family names originated in Switzerland by using the online website “Familienbuch der Schweiz.”
Did you know that it is sometimes possible to find census records in Zürich canton which sometimes can go back beyond the earliest Zürich church records? For example, the parish registers of Dielsdorf are only available on film as far back as 1738, yet there are census records for many years prior and beginning as early as 1634!
Learn all you need to know to get started and find records on film or online that can help you find those ancestors. This class will help you to understand how Swiss church records are arranged, how to use them, and what languages those records might appear in. You will be shown helpful websites to find online images as well as research help.
These and other Swiss research tips are being presented at the Family History Library on 24 Mar. at 7:00pm. This class will be held in the B1 floor classroom but if you aren’t able to come to the Library and attend, you can also view this class via webinar on your home computer.
