Great things are happening with efforts to digitize cemeteries throughout the world. Recently, BillionGraves and MyHeritage have partnered up to focus on encouraging people everywhere to work together in a race against time to digitize cemeteries throughout the world. Doing so will dramatically increase access to tombstone information to everyone, free of charge.
In light of this new partnership, BillionGraves has announced the release of their new app in 25 languages. That means that anyone almost anywhere in the world will now be able to digitize cemeteries wherever they live. With this new app, digitizing tombstone information is easier than ever.
To prove how easy it is to use the new BillionGraves app, MyHeritage’s founder and CEO Gilad Japhet recently visited a cemetery in Israel. Within a matter of a few hours Japhet captured images of more than 1,000 gravestones. His message to the world is that efforts to capture and preserve the images of the world’s tombstones is a race against time. The more people who get on board, the better. It’s all about crowdsourcing. Everyone can get involved and can make a very big difference.
Take a minute and watch a short YouTube video of Japhet’s Israel experience. The video clip is called Join Our Initiative to Digitize the World's Cemeteries!
