The Andrew Ansel Rowberg Collection is a valuable resource for Norwegian family history research.
Andrew Ansel Rowberg was born May 16, 1887 near Hanley falls, Minnesota, the son of Leif and Caroline (Akre) Rowberg. Andrew graduated from St. Olaf College in 1910 and immediately joined the Mohn Publishing Company in Northfield, Minnesota. He soon became part owner and edited the Northfield Independent until his retirement in 1952.
Andrew Rowberg started his file in 1914 by clipping articles from Norwegian-American newspapers. The articles pertained to Norwegian Americans and included obituaries, wedding and birth announcements, wedding anniversaries, feature stories, promotions, honors, Norway visits, and other events.
Short articles are mounted on cards, while longer articles are mounted in scrapbooks. Reference cards indicate volume and page number to these scrapbooks. Each article gives the newspaper's name and date of issue. The file also gives references to biographical information in a number of Norwegian-American periodicals. The file is arranged in 3 series, one arranged in numbered volumes, one arranged alphabetically by surname, and one arranged alphabetically by place name.
The Rowberg file is available on microfiche in the Family History Library or on loan at family history centers. See information in the Family History Library Catalog about the collection.
