A Message to Family History Center Directors

I hope that your holiday season was joyous and wonderful! As we head into the new year, I’m excited about the possibilities of what we can do in the family history centers. You already accomplish so much, and I am hoping that what we focus on in this newsletter article enhances your responsibilities and the patron's experience.

In the last Manager's Corner, we mentioned some new features that would come out in regard to the monthly report. I’m excited to announce that once you fill out your monthly report, a summary is sent back to you, including a 12-month log of what your trend has been. Hopefully, this will give you a better feel for what is going on in your family history center and provide something that you can share with your priesthood leaders.

As you think about the experience that you are creating in your center, I'd like to share a quote with you from Elder Oaks from the June 1989 Ensign, in which he said, "We should understand that in the work of redeeming the dead there are many tasks to be performed, and that all members should participate by prayerfully selecting those ways that fit their personal circumstances at a particular time. This should be done under the influence of the Spirit of the Lord and with the guidance of priesthood leaders who issue calls and direct the Church-administered portions of this work. Our effort is not to compel everyone to do everything, but to encourage everyone to do something" (6).

It is important not to try to get people to do what we think is important, but what the Spirit has told them is important.

Thank you for being so good.
