Do you like volunteering on FamilySearch.org? FamilySearch Get Involved has added more opportunities for you to help others discover their ancestors—more than 100 million, in fact. That’s the number of new English-language record images available in Quick Name Review on Get Involved.
What’s even more exciting is that these images are of 19th-century land records and deeds from the United States. Having English-language records from such an early time period is something we haven’t had on Quick Name Review since the US 1950 census.
Why This Collection of Images Matters

This collection includes documentation of enslaved persons in the early United States as well as immigrants coming to the United States and buying land. These records offer a glimpse into a chapter of history that is very important. Not only are these images some of the best pre-census materials in the United States — they’re also filled with information of individuals before and after emancipation as well as throughout the increasing population growth of the United States.
Reviewing these images is a chance to honor and remember those whose stories were not recorded elsewhere. Whether the ancestor was enslaved, an immigrant, or a settler, some of those recorded in these records may not appear in other records from that time.
Those searching for family in these records may be able to find a wealth of information. They often include where an individual lived and the name of their spouse, heir, relatives, or neighbors. From these records, someone may also learn where a person lived previously, his or her occupation, details about military service, whether he or she was a naturalized citizen, and more.
What Is Get Involved?

Get Involved is FamilySearch’s volunteer hub where anyone can contribute to genealogical research by reviewing and improving historical record indexes. Some activities, like Quick Name Review, can be done on the mobile app in mere seconds. With each name you review, you help make valuable information accessible to others seeking to explore their family’s history.
