"The Lamar Rifles, which is Company G of the Eleventh Mississippi Infantry Regiment, was formed in 1860 at Oxford, Mississippi. This Company was given the name of 'The Lamar Rifles' in honor of L. Q. C. Lamar, then a Member of Congress, afterward a member of the United States Senate, Secretary of the Interior in President Grover Cleveland's Cabinet, and one of the Justices of the United States Supreme Court, a position which he held at the time of his death"--Page 8.
