William Powell Lear (1902-1978) was the son of Reuben Marion Lear (1878- 1955) and Gertrude Elizabeth Powell (1883/4-1934) of Hannibal, Marion, Missouri. His father Reuben, was the son of John William Lear and Mary Elizabeth Atkins (sometimes written as Adkins). They lived in both Macon and Marion counties, Missouri. John William Lear's parents were Jesse M. Lear and Nancy Fagan of Miller Twp., Marion County, Mo. Jesse (b.1817) was born in Bourbon County, Kentucky. He came with his parents Thomas M. Lear and Mary Fagan from Bourbon County to Marion County, Mo. Earlier the family had moved from Culpepper County, Virginia to Kentucky. John Victor Stuber, a native of Solothurn, Switzerland migrated to Dubuque, Iowa prior to 1859, where he was married to Christina Wilhelmina Yeasel/Geasel. They were the grandparents of Gertrude Elizabeth Powell. William Powell Lear was a self-taught U.S. electrical engineer and industrialist whose Lear Jet Corporation was the first mass-manufacturer of business jet aircraft in the world. He held 150 patents. There were six grandchildren and several great grandchildren of Reuben M. Lear. Descendants are located in Missouri, California and elsewhere.
