Hans Rudolph Spengler married twice, and had thirteen children; five sons emigrated from the Palatinate of Germany to Philadelphia. Four of them settled in York County, Pennsylvania, and the fifth (Peter) was never heard of again after his arrival in Philadelphia in 1740. The four were originally named Hans Kaspar (1684-1760), Hans George (1701-1754), Jörg Heinrich (1704-1776), Johannes Balthasar (1706-1770), and their given names were anglicized as cited in the title. Descendants and relatives lived in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri and elsewhere. Includes some ancestry to 1150 A.D. in Germany, as well as correspondence in the 1890s establishing contact between the family in the United States and their relatives in Germany. The book contains a special chapter with the muster rolls for the companies from York County serving in the Revolutionary War.
