What is FamilySearch Digital Library Book Scanning?

FamilySearch offers a free, easy service to digitally preserve your family history or a book of genealogical value. We have several book scanning centers located in select partner libraries throughout the United States and Canada, including our own Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah. Each center is staffed with volunteers and special book scanning equipment. Patrons can bring written histories to be scanned and published online in the new FamilySearch Digital Library. Digitized books are word searchable, which allows you to search for family names, locations, or other subjects of interest. Most donations can be printed or downloaded as a searchable PDF from the FamilySearch Digital Library.

Copyrighted works must include a signed permission form from an authorized individual before scanning can occur. Permission forms are available in English, Arabic, French, German, Italian, and Spanish. For forms in other languages, please email us at digitallibrary@familysearch.org.

For questions about having a book scanned or visiting a FamilySearch book scanning center, please email us at digitallibrary@familysearch.org.

We look forward to the opportunity to scan your written family history!
