Plantilla:Namespace detect

Portals are useful entry points into FamilySearch Wiki content. They are intended to help users locate content relevant to the subject of the portal. A portal page is different from regular wiki pages. Portals reside in the Portal namespace. Each portal begins with "Portal:". A portal is a page with several boxes each containing different content. Each box is a subpage. When the subpage is edited, this change will be reflected on the main portal page.

Before editing portals, you must turn off the FCK editor!! To do this, log in, go to my preferences, click on the misc tab, and check "disable rich text editor." This applies to any editing of portal structure. Text within the boxes of a portal may be edited with the FCK editor.

How to create a portal[editar | editar código]

To create a portal page:

  1. Create a new portal page by first searching for it in the search box. Type Portal:(name of topic). For example, to create a portal about Oregon, it would be titled Portal:Oregon. If the portal already exists, the portal page will appear in the search results. If the portal does not exist, it will not show up in the search results, but the search term will appear in red on the page above the search results. Click on this link to begin creating the new portal page. Clicking on the red search term (Portal:Oregon, for example) will open an editing box.
  2. In the editing box, type the following characters to import the portal template: {{subst:Portal}}
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Save page.
  4. The resulting saved portal page will show many red links. Click on the first red link containing "/box-header" and paste the following code which allows the colors on the portal page to be customized:
{{Portal:Box-header | title={{{1}}}
|border=#41525F <!-- This is the color of the borders around Box Sections -->
|titleforeground=white <!-- This is the color of the Box Section Title Bar text -->
|titlebackground=#41525F <!-- This is the color of the Box Section Title Bar -->
|background=white <!-- This is the color of the Box Section background -->
|foreground=black}} <!-- This is the color of the Box Section text -->

5. Go back to the portal page

6. Now click on the first link "/box-footer". In the first "/box-footer" page, paste the following code:

{{Portal:box-footer | {{{1}}} }}

7. The portal page creation is finished.

8. The portal page will now show boxes with red links. Click the red link to add content to a box.

{{/box-header|'''Topics'''|{{FULLPAGENAME}}/Topics|}} {{{{FULLPAGENAME}}/Topics}} {{/box-footer|}}

Adding a box to a portal[editar | editar código]

To add a box to a portal:

1. Go to the portal page
2. Click on the edit tab
3. Click on Wikitext in the editing toolbar
4. Copy the text in the following box:

{{/box-header|''' 1 '''|{{FULLPAGENAME}}/ 1 |}} {{{{FULLPAGENAME}}/ 1 }} {{/box-footer|}}

5. Each box on the page begins with /box-header. The number 1 in the above code represents the title of the box. Look at the code on the edit screen of the portal page. Paste the text copied from above into the portal page code where you want the new box to appear. For example, if you want your new box to appear between the Featured content box and the Did you know? box, it would look like:

{{/box-header|'''Featured Content'''|{{FULLPAGENAME}}/Featured Content|}}
{{{{FULLPAGENAME}}/Featured Content}}

{{/box-header|''' 1 '''|{{FULLPAGENAME}}/ 1 |}} {{{{FULLPAGENAME}}/ 1 }} {{/box-footer|}}

{{/box-header|'''Did you know?'''|{{FULLPAGENAME}}/Did you know?|}}
{{{{FULLPAGENAME}}/Did you know?}}

6. In the code you just pasted, change each "1" to the title you want to appear on the box. Each "1" needs to have the same title. For example, to add a box with the title "Counties" it would look like:

{{/box-header|'''Counties'''|{{FULLPAGENAME}}/Counties|}} {{{{FULLPAGENAME}}/Counties}}

7. Save the page
8. The new box will now appear on the portal page. A red link will appear inside the box. Click on the link to add text to the box.

Box Header and Footer[editar | editar código]

The following templates are used to create the boxes displayed on portal pages. All portals currently reference these templates.
