WHIMPLE (St. Mary), a parish, in the union of St. Thomas, hundred of Cliston, Woodbury and N. divisions of Devon, 4½ miles (W. N. W.) from Ottery St. Mary contains the tything of Strete-Raleigh. This parish, which is situated on the western road, at about an equal distance from Exeter and Honiton, comprises by measurement 3000 acres. The church is an ancient structure.[1]
