These records cover the years from 1837 through 1922, although the dates included in individual parishes may vary.
Record Description
This collection is comprised of marriages recorded by the parish churches in the historic county of Glamorgan, Wales. The following parishes are included in this collection:

How to Use the Record
These records can be used to identify the time and place that a marriage occurred and uncover many other helpful clues for extending the pedigree. Among these are the maiden name of the bride, the parish in which the bride and groom resided before marriage, and often the names and occupations of the fathers of the bride and groom. The names of the witnesses to the marriage can also provide clues to further research, as they may have been relatives or friends of the couple.
Record History
This collection contains marriage banns and registers from the Glamorgan Record Office and the National Library of Wales. The majority of the people included were married by banns. Banns were posted three consecutive weeks in the parish church, during which time members of the congregation could bring forward objections to the marriage. Others, who wished to marry more quickly, or in a distant parish could be married by licence for a fee. The marriage registers often indicate whether the couple was marrying by banns or by licence.
The records are organized on FamilySearch by the town name and sometimes the parish name according to the place names specified on the records.
Why the Record Was Created
Marriage records were created to legalize marital relationships and to safeguard the interest of the wife and other heirs. Some records, such as marriage banns, were created to notify the community of the pending marriage and provide them an opportunity to object to it.
Record Reliability
It should be noted that the existence of a marriage bann does not definitively prove that the couple married.
