Brief History

Wallingford was chartered on November 27, 1761. The first proprietors' meeting was held at Wallingford, Ct, (from which place this town was named), September 12, 1772. The town was organized March 10, 1778.

Wallingford can boast of three noteworthy individuals; Pitchforks and Lyman Batcheller, Gilbert Hart made his fortune with the emery wheel invention and provided money for Wallingford's Gilbert Hart Library, and Paul Harris, who received his education in Wallingford, founded Rotary Internation.
