3 Day BASIC Family History Course


DESCRIPTION: This 12 class basic course addresses topics such as essential research elements, understanding of vital record types, various search strategies, introduction and navigation in genealogical websites including familysearch.org and ancestry.com, and hands-on experiences associated with these topics. A recommended follow-up to this course is the 3 Day ADVANCED Family History Course offered three times a year.(February, June, October; see details below.) add link here PREREQUISITES: NONE-- but those having limited computer or internet experience are encouraged to attend the

Computer & Internet Basics classes held the Monday afternoon prior to the 3 Day Basic FH Course.

REGISTRATION SPACE IS LIMITED 24 seats:To sign-up for this course call 310-474-9990. You will need to give your name,

an email address and telephone number. Enrollment is not finalized until payment is received.

FEES: There is a $20 fee for the course which covers the cost of printing an extensive notebook of Powerpoint slides and hands-on Guides. If you cannot afford the fee, it will be waived.

3 Day ADVANCED Family History Course

DESCRIPTION: The Three-Day ADVANCED FH course (12 classes) is designed to provide the general public, ward Family History Consultants, Family History Center volunteers, and members of the church, who already know the basics, with more advanced family/genealogical training. This course deals with more complicated, harder to locate record types like newspapers & obituaries, probate, land & property, and passenger & naturalization records. We also explore important research aids, working in FS Family Tree, learning strategies for solving brick walls, and doing hands-on activities associated with these topics. add link here PREREQUISITES: Understand the basics of family history/genealogy research (be familiar with topics taught in the 3-Day BASIC course above.

Know how to work in a genealogical software program.
Be acquainted with www.familysearch.org-especially the FS catalog https://familysearch.org/catalog/search and Family Tree.
Be acquainted with www.ancestry.com.

Finding Your Roots in Germany
