Stake boundariesThe Latter-day Saints residing in the eastern part of the state of Oregon, mostly in Union and Baker counties plus that part of Washington County, Idaho called Indian Valley.


History Timeline up to about 1930 Late 1850's As part of the Northwestern States Mission, branches were organized in Eastern Oregon. 1901 - June - 9 - 1901 - The Union Stake of Zion was organized. The following wards were organized at the same time, La Grande, Mount Glen, Alicel, Baker Imbler, and Nibley. This timeline (arranged by year) includes events that affected records, record-keeping, and movements of Mormons in this area.


Other History Resources
Many wards or branches appointed members to compile a history. Copies may be in the ward library or in homes of members. Some contain biographical sketches of members of the ward at the time of compilation.

   Alicel Ward

Boundaries:The Latter-day Saints residing in the village of Alicel, a small railroad town on the Oregon Short Line Railroad, situated in the Grande Ronde Valley, about eight miles northeast of La Grande, Oregon

  • 1900 - May - 13 - 1900 - The Alicel Branch was organized.
  • 1901 - June - 9 - 1901 - The Alicel Branch was organized as the Alicel Ward.

  • 1893 - July - 23 - 1893 - The Baker Branch was organized.
  • 1899 The Baker Branch was transferred from the Oneida, Idaho Stake to the Northwestern States Mission.
  • 1901 - June - 9 - 1901 - The Baker Ward was organized and became part of the Union, Oregon Stake.

Indian Valley Ward

Indian Valley Ward (Washington County, Idaho)

Boundaries:The Latter-day Saints residing in the Indian Valley, about 70 miles northwest of Boise, Idaho, and about 95 miles southeast of La Grande, the headquarters of the Union Stake.

History timeline 1899 - Oct. - 29 - 1899 - Indian Valley Branch organized. 1901 - The Indian Valley Branch became part of the Union Stake. 1902 - Sept. - 7 - 1902 - The branch was organized as the Indian Valley Ward.
