1862--Traverse County was created from Pierce County and unorganized territory. It was attached to the counties of Stearns in 1866, Douglas in 1867, Pope in 1868, and then Stevens County in 1872 for judicial purposes. In 1881 it was formally organized. County seat: Wheaton
