History Timeline up to about 1930

This timeline (arranged by year) includes events that affected records, record-keeping, and movements of Mormons in this area.

  • 1900 - South Sanpete Stake was organized, on December 9, when Sanpete Stake was divided into the South Sanpete Stake and the North Sanpete Stake.
  • 1901 - South Sanpete Stake commenced to function on January 1, its boundaries including Axtell Ward, Centerfield Ward, Ephraim North Ward, Ephraim South Ward, Fayette Ward, Gunnison Ward, Manti North Ward, Manti South Ward, Mayfield Ward and Sterling Ward.
  • 1923 - On May 6, the southern part of South Sanpete Stake was organized as the Gunnison Stake, with Axtell Ward, Centerfield Ward, Fayette Ward, Gunnison Ward, Mayfield Ward and Clarion Branch becoming a part of the Gunnison Stake.
