History

Parent County

San Augustine County was one of the original twenty-three counties of Texas, created on 17 March 1836 and organized in 1837 from an Old Mexican Municipality of San Augustine founded in 1834. County seat: San Augustine. The mission of Nuestra Senora de los Dolores de los Ais was established in 1716.
