Early History

The first marriages in the parish of St. Lucy, Barbados appear in April of 1749 with surnames such as Cadogan, Cragg, English, Harris, Jones, Leach, Matthews, McCoye, Poyer, Sandiford, Yearwood. These were quickly followed by other well known names from that period with the likes of Agard, Alleyne, Archer, Armstrong, Babb, Ball, Bowen, Boyce, Campbell, Carter, Clarke, Cozier, Corbin, Daniel, Edwards, Forster, French, Gibbs, Gilkes, Gittens, Greaves, Greenidge, Griffith, Hinkson, Johnson, Jordan, Kellman, Leacock, Mallard, Marshall, McDonald, Potter, Seale, Smith, Springer, Walcott, Whitefoot, Whitehead, Williams and Yearwood.
