Citizenship records (registre cetațenie) are lists of citizens or inhabitants of a given town or are lists of persons who are entitled to special rights, privileges and/or protection of the town or community. These records were kept in each town from about 1500 to 1900. They can be used to link generations, especially in towns and communities where the family has resided for several generations. Some citizenship records may include the genealogy of the person listed.
Coverage: 20% of the population can be found in citizenship records.
Content: Names, ages, and social and/or economic class of the citizen, town of origin, date when citizenship rights were acquired, family relationships, and sometimes genealogies are listed.
Accessing the Records: Regional Archives hold citizenship records. The Family History Library has no citizenship records.[1]
