The library offers a free seminar every third Saturday of the month. An opening session is held at 9:00 a.m. featuring a keynote address. Following this session attendees are offered four choices of presentations at both 10:00 and 11:00 a.m.

- Keynote Address - "FamilySearch.org: Putting the 'Family' in Family History" - Paul Nauta
Manager of Public Affairs for FamilySearch.org
2013 will be one of significant enhancements to FamilySearch.org. Throughout the year, FamilySearch.org visitors will be offered new, engaging experiences that will appeal to more members of the family with diverse interests. Learning and sharing stories about family, past and present, creates bonding family moments that bring us closer. These experiences will connect family members in the present with the past while creating a legacy for the future.
FamilySearch.org is adding some incredible new features that will enrich user experiences. In his keynote presentation, "Putting the Family in Family History," Paul Nauta will discuss many of these features, including the Family Tree, the ability to add photos and stories, the temple opportunities list, interactive fan charts, the Getting Started tree wizard, and live help. He'll also explore the idea of turning hearts without technology, the Oral History Room, and a different type of family history leader.
Paul Nauta is the manager of public affairs for FamilySearch, a nonprofit entity of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Paul is responsible for public and media relations; industry and community outreach; and promoting FamilySearch services such as FamilySearch.org, FamilySearch Record Services, the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, and over 4,600 family history centers in 132 countries.
He holds a master's degree in business administration and is an adjunct professor for the University of Phoenix, where he was recognized as the Distinguished Faculty of the Year for 2007.

Boy Scout Workshop / Genealogy Merit Badge

No registration is necessary.
The library offers a monthly workshop to assist Boy Scouts with their Genealogy Merit Badge. The workshop is held the second Saturday of each month from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m.
Saturday, April 13, 2013 / 10:00 - 11:30 a.m.
Scouts must prepare for the workshop by doing the following:
1) Interview a family member about their life. The interview can be completed by telephone, e-mail or letter and the information learned must be recorded;
2) Complete a four-generation pedigree chart. Make sure this includes information about at least one ancestor who was living in 1930;
3) Complete two family group sheets (one listing your parents and your family, and another listing one of your parents and their parents and siblings); and
4) Bring a blue merit badge card (which can be obtained from the Scoutmaster.)
If these items are completed and brought to the workshop, all other requirements for the merit badge can be finished at the workshop and authorized personnel can certify the completion of the merit badge.
