Known Issues

NOTE: For a way to determine what digital records are likely to be found within a collection or how to find missing images elsewhere, see Article 56000, Using Film Notes in the Catalog to determine the content of a final browse point in Historical Records.

NOTE: Most missing records are available on microfilm which can be viewed at the Family History Library or some FamilySearch Centers.

Question #1: The Event Type and Year Range (browse point) title does not properly reflect the actual digital record content. Is there a way to determine what digital records are likely to be found within a collection?
Answer #1: The following list of known browse point discrepancies describes the event type or year range that actually exist in this collection:

  • Châteauguay > Saint-Joachim-de-Châteauguay > Index, baptêmes 1736-1978 (Abado-Costano) contains the records for Index, baptêmes 1736-1978 (Cote-Fortier)
  • Châteauguay > Saint-Joachim-de-Châteauguay > Index, baptêmes 1736-1978 (Cote-Fortier) contains the records for Index, baptêmes 1736-1978 (Abado-Costano)
  • Cloridorme > Sainte-Cécile-de-Cloridorme > Baptêmes, mariages, sépultures 1874-1880 should read Cloridorme > Sainte-Cécile-de-Cloridorme > Baptêmes, mariages, sépultures 1873-1884. The following table shows the images and their corresponding years.
Images Years
1,2 1873 index
3 to 60 1874-1879
61 to 67 1881
68 to 74 1882
75 to 82 1883
83 to 93 1884
94 to 105 1880
  • Louiseville > Saint-Antoine-de-la-Rivière-du-Loup > Baptêmes, mariages, sépultures 1755-1756 has records as follows:
  • Records from 1755 to 1756 are on images 1 – 25

  • Louiseville > Saint-Antoine-de-la-Rivière-du-Loup > Baptêmes, mariages, sépultures 1770-1817 has records from 1788 to 1817.
  • Saint-Edouard Québec > Notre-Dame-de-Québec > Baptêmes, mariages, sépultures 1793-1798, (See film notes for film 1289917). The records for years 1793-1794 follow the records for 1795-1796, beginning at image 188.
  • Saint-Anastasie > Saint-Anastasie > Saint-Anastasie-de-Nelson should be spelled Sainte-Anastasie > Sainte-Anastasie-de-Nelson
  • Saint-Francois contains the records for Saint-François-de-l'Île-d'Orléans? Note that not all of the Baptêmes, mariages, sépultures 1679-1789 records are in chronological order, particularly images 400 to 450.
  • Saint-Henri-de-Lauzon > Baptêmes, mariages, sépultures contains records up to 1809 as follows:
  • Records from 1766 to 1784 are on images 1-79.
  • Records from 1804 to 1809 are on images 79-228.
  • Records from 1784 to 1803 are on images 229-492.
  • Saint-Jean > Saint-Jean-Baptiste has records from St Jean de l'Ile d'Orleans.
  • Saint-Julienne > Sainte-Julienne-de-Rawdon should be spelled Sainte-Julienne > Sainte-Julienne-de-Rawdon
  • Saint-Léonard-de-Portneuf > Saint-Léonard-de-Port-Maurice: These records are from Portneuf. The church of Saint-Léonard-de-Port-Maurice is not in Portneuf.
  • Saint-Mathieu-de-Rioux > Saint-Mathieu > Baptêmes, mariages, sépultures 1866-1884. The 1866 – 1875 records are found at this browse point but they are not in chronological order. They are in reverse chronological order until 1874 then they start at 1866 at image 49

Question #3: Where can I see records for Hull or Gatineau, Quebec?
Answer #3: The parish for Hull was opened in 1871 but the registers between 1871 and 1886 were burned. FamilySearch does not have online records after that date. Records in this collection for other parishes in Hull county are found at Cantley, Old Chelsea and Pointe-Gatineau.
The site of the Institut Drouin at http://www.genealogiequebec.com includes all marriages for Hull up to 1911

Question #4: What happened to the records from films 1018093 , 1018094 and 1311432 from the Eglise catholique, Archidiocèse de Québec (Québec)
Answer #4: These records were moved to Quebec, Catholic Parish Registers, 1621-1979 >Localités multiples > Localités multiples > Baptêmes, mariages, sépultures 1662-1848

Film 1018093 starts at image 1
Film 1018094 starts at image 524
Film 1311432 starts at image 1022

Question #5: The records jump from 1770 to 1773 at image 319 Saint-Ours > Immaculée-Conception > Baptêmes, mariages, sépultures 1750-1789 but at image 321 they are back to 1770. Can you explain?
Answer #5: Some pages have been filed out of order. The records that should fall in sequence at image 319 and 320 are found at images 409 and 410. The records found at images at 409 and 410 should be located at images 319 and 320.
