Puebla is one of 32 federal entities, commonly known as states, that make up the country of Mexico. It is located in the southern central part of the country and has the bordering states of:

  • Tlaxcala
  • Hidalgo
  • Veracruz
  • Oaxaca
  • Guerrero
  • Morelos
  • Mexico

The state's capital is Puebla de Zaragoza, formerly known as Puebla de los Ángeles. The state has much historical significance as it was the center and resting point of the route from the coastal port of Veracruz to Mexico City.

Jurisdictions

The state of Puebla is composed of seven economic regions.

  1. Huauchinango
  2. Teziutlán
  3. Ciudad Serdán
  4. San Pedro Cholula
  5. Puebla
  6. Izúcar de Matamoros
  7. Tehuacán

Within these seven economic regions a smaller form of jurisdiction can be found called a municipality or municipio.
