Details about the rivers and waterways where farms and settlements are often found along them.

The impoundment on Rickreall Creek a mile north of Socialist Valley is storage for the City of Dallas water supply. It is named for Aaron Mercer, a member of the Dallas Water Commission from 1949 to 1955, and a member of the Dallas City Council for many years thereafters. The USGS Socialist Valley quadrangle uses the full name but Resolution 1579 of the City of Dallas, dated Apr. 21, 1969, calls for Mercer Reservoir.
