Polk county was created from Yamhill County 22 Decemeber 1845. Named James K. Polk, the 11th president of the United States. Parts were taken for Benton 23 Dec 1847, Lincoln 20 February 1893, Tillamook 15 Dec 1853.
The county seat is Dallas. It was formerly named Cynthian.
