History

The Pierre Indian School, located in Pierre, South Dakota,  was authorized in 1888 and opened in 1891 as a nonreservation boarding school..In 1954 it was consolidated with the Crow Creek Agency to form the Pierre Agency[1].

Records

Some administrative records for the Pierre Indian School, mostly for about 1905-1942, are in the Central Plains Regional Archives of the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) in Kansas City. No individual student files are listed in the inventory available online.

Microfilm copies of ...Narrative and Statistical Reports... for the Pierre School, 1910-1935, are included in National Archives Microcopy M1011, Roll 104[2], available in the National Archives system and in the collections of the Family History Library in Salt Lake City (their microfilm number 1724322).
