Quick History

Settled in 1855, Peterson was first known as "Weber City" and was designated the county seat in 1862. Charles Shreeve Peterson was appointed the first probate judge and the name of the community was changed to Peterson in 1872. [1]

With the elevation of 9,707, Thurston Peak is the highest peak in the county. In 1861 the first public building was built. This multitask building served as a school, church and handled official county business.

About 1869 the Peterson General Store was built which housed the post office. A railroad station, the Dexter Hotel and park served as a focal points for the community.

Peterson had a passenger railroad station and stockyard located along the railroad tracks. A major attraction for many years was the Dexter Hotel and Park where many community activities were held.
