'''AAGSNC Workshop - Louisiana - '''The Louisiana Workshop is a working evening for those who are doing research in Louisiana or just getting started with research there. All levels are welcomed. We highly encourage those who attend to have began a 4 generation pedigree chart and have a binder for handouts available.

'''African-American Research Workshop''' - Encountering challenges overcoming those brick walls while conducting your family's African American genealogical research? Unsure of which research strategies and techniques can assist you in locating your ancestors? Are you unable to conduct your research beyond the magical year of 1870, (the first year African Americans were enumerated in the U.S. Census)? If you said yes to any of these questions, then the African American Research Workshop (AARW) may be the remedy to your genealogical challenges! The workshop is scheduled the fourth Wednesday of each month. Instruction takes place during convenient evening hours; 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Individual assistance is provided from 8:00 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. No pre-registraton necessary!

'''CGS Intermediate Research Series''' '''- Finding Country Cousins in Land and Property Records''' - Land records are often the only records that can be found to prove the link between generations. This class will cover several types of property records, maps, and gazetteers, providing tips on finding and using these records, and demonstrating their value with a few case studies.
'''CGS Intermediate Research Series''' '''- Seeking City Slickers in Lesser-Known Records''' - City residents were frequently renters and transients, so standard land records may not be very useful. This class will cover related records (such as tax lists, city directories, and fire insurance maps) that can provide a surprising amount of evidence. In addition, we will take a brief look at the various membership societies that have arisen over the years and the records they have created.
'''CGS Intermediate Research Series''' '''- Immigration, Passenger Lists, Naturalization, Passports''' - Once you find your immigrant ancestor the research tools change. Finding information here in the U.S. to assist you is the first step. This class will identify resources and provide tools and strategies to help you make the leap to another country.
'''CGS Intermediate Research Series''''' - ''''''Reading and Transcribing Old Handwriting of Colonial America''' - Many researchers give up when they encounter records still in the original handwriting. However, some simple understanding of the way letters were made and evolved between the 1600's and the 1860's can turn the illegible into the readable. This class will identify those logical changes and also the generally accepted rules for transcribing original records into typescript.

'''CGS Intermediate Research Series''' '''- Solving the Toughest Genealogy Problems''' - This final class in the series will talk about techniques for research when all the usual solutions don’t work. We will discuss developing a plan for solving those end-of-the-line situations.

'''Crossing the Pond: Getting Started with your German Research''' - Instructor, Dr. Robert Jackson - The main question facing anyone studying German ancestry is, "Where did they come from?" But it's not enough to know that they were from Prussia or Bavaria or Baden. Accessing the incredibly rich documentary archives in Germany requires that you know the name of their village. Focusing on the great wave of German immigration from 1840 to 1900, this class will outline the numerous resources available that can help you narrow the search for your ancestors' place of origin. We'll also touch on the special challenges posed by the spelling of German surnames and place names and by the movable feast of German geography in the 19th century. Finally, we'll glance ahead to the main issues involved in accessing archives and records in Germany.

'''Irish Research Online''' - Instructor, Janice Sellers APG - Once upon a time, searching for Irish ancestors required learning the townland of origin, or at least the county, before you could even consider crossing the Atlantic. While that is still helpful, it is now often possible to find a family without that information by using the wealth of records that have gone online in the last couple of years. This class will cover some of the many resources available online for Irish research.

'''Using the SEARCH feature in Roots Magic''' '''(hands-on)''' - Instructor, Ken Miller - This is a hands-on introduction to using the SEARCH feature of Roots Magic. Search allows the user to sort a database by any field(s). For instance, one can sort out of the main database only those born in New York state between 1850 and 1875, and then make a custom report of those individuals. When used effectively it can be a powerful and useful research tool.
