LEGACY PLANNING - WHAT HAPPENS TO YOUR RESEARCH AFTER YOU ARE GONE? - Wednesday, January 18, 1P-3P - We are delighted to welcome genealogist and speaker Patricia Burrow. Patricia has blended her retired, tech world vocation with her passionate avocation for genealogy research and storytelling. She leads several groups in the genealogy community and has been actively researching her family’s history for almost a decade. Legacy Planning usually refers to your will, trusts and medical directives. Have you thought about what is going to happen to your family history research? Those file cabinets, folders, binders and archival boxes full of memorabilia? Do your children know what to do with it all? Do they know where your family history database is on your computer? The Filename? We all know that, if it looks "important", it has a better chance of avoiding the dumpster cut. Let's talk about some of the things we can do to ensure that those hard found stories do not get lost again and family history research is preserved for future generations. PAPER BASICS: SAVING YOUR FAMILY'S PAPER BASED HISTORY - Wednesday, 22 February 2017, at 11 AM - Have you got original documents that need to be preserved?.... Letters, diaries, journals, certificates, citizenship papers, family Bibles... before they crumble into dust let Karen Zukor teach you the basics of preservation. Come listen to her presentation on the factors that damage paper and how to properly handle, store and display those items that are both inherently valuable and inherently fragile. Karen has been a professional paper conservator for almost thirty years and is a Fellow of the American Institute for Conservation. She has been responsible for many collections - including fine art, archival material, maps, documents, and rare books - held both in private hands and at institutions. In addition, she has trained both pre- and post-program interns for over twenty years, and lectures widely to the general public. You won't want to miss this exciting opportunity.
