FamilySearch This article describes the services and resources available at a Family History Center, a branch facility of the Family History Library.

Montrose Family Search Center serves Montrose and the surrounding area.

 Location & Map:

Open Hours:
Tue: 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm NOTE: By appointment only. Call 970-209-9768 reservations
Wed: 10:00 am - 1.00 pm and 6.00 pm - 9.00 pm
Thur: 10.00 am - 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
3rd Friday each month the FHC will be open for Spanish speaking patrons from 7:00pm to 9:00pm

The FHC will be closed as follows:

  • During the Month of August and opening again on September 4th
  • October 31st and November 27th and 28th
  • December 21st through January, 2014,opening again on January 8th & 9th 2014

 Welcome to our Family History Classes for 2013!  We hope you will find a class that will help you begin your work to identify your family members and enjoy this journey of reasearch!

Bring a friend with you, a relative or a teenager who can learn with you so you can use what you have learned in these classes at home.   Millions of names are being added weekly to the huge bank of Family History sources.  Come and find out more about them and how you can assess them to locate your family ancestors.

January Classes :  22nd & 24th - Baby Step Genealogy

This is for beginners.  You can learn how to put together the little pieces of information you have already collected or you may not have any information at all, YET.  This class is for you.  Come and find out how to get started.  This is a beginning class.

                             23rd & 30th- How to do Genealogy on the Computer

Are you concerned about using Genealogy Programs, how to manipulate what the screen has to offer you for research options?  Come to this class to get a handle on using the current computer programs to do research for family history.  This is a beginning class.

                             29th & 31st - Ancestry.com

Have you lost your ancestors?  Well, Ancestry.com can help you with your search.  Come and learn how to use this exciting program.   This class is for everyone.


February Classes: 5th, 7th, 12th, 14th, 19th, 21st, 26th, and 28th. - Writing your Family History

Got a lot of information on your family and had thoughts about putting it all together into a book??  Come to this class and learn how to put your information into a book format.  You're the author.  

This class if for everyone.


March Classes:   12th & 14thDo you know of the resources in Montrose for Genealogy? Have you heard of Fork-kin Trails? What is the Colorado Room at the Montrose Regional Library? These are sources for genealogy research in this area. Would you like to know what else is available in this area for use in your research. Come to this class! NOTE: Class on this date (12th) will be held @ the Montrose Regional Library (320 South 2nd Street @ 6:30 pm)&  : NOTE Class on this date (14th) will be held @ th:e Fore-Kin Trails library (700 East Main  #103  in Montrose at 6:30 pm)This class is for everyone.

                         19th & 21st ' Google Earth, Google Map & Google Street
What do these google sites have to do with genealogy? Would you like to see where your ancestors lived, played, went to school and worked. Maybe you can piece together a picture that you have taken in a city where grandmother lived. These sites may help you make more since of their lives and piece together some of the many stories and or histories. This is an advanced class.


April Classes: 3rd Indexing—A way to give back. GOT A HALF HOUR? Come be part of thousands around the world that are indexing billions of records from archives that have been copied but not yet available for searching. The 1940 census of the United States was just completed in just 6 months so that all may search for their ancestors during this important census. Other projects include: Italian Ancestors, US WW I Draft Registration Cards, Mexico, Hidalgo—Registros Bautismales 1561-1961, Civil war enlistment records, and many more. Everyone come

                       9Th & 11th Plus 16th & 18th  Family Search How to use Family Search, a free computer search program that may your family information. Learn how to put your information on this program, what this program can do and some of it's limitations. This class will also include how to online order films for viewing from the Genealogy records vault in Salt Lake for viewing at the Montrose FHC. NOTE: Class on these dates (9Th, 11th) will be held @ the Montrose Regional Library (320 South 2nd Street @ 6:30 pm) NOTE: Class on these dates (16Th, 18th) will be held @ the Montrose Family History Center (1521 South Hillcrest Drive @ 6:30 pm) This class is for everyone.
                       23rd & 25thFamilyTree This Family Tree is for you. That's right, your very own family tree. Learn a free program to put your family information on. Find out how it is different from the other programs and the special features it has to offer. Did you find mistakes. Lets try an correct them. Come find out how this can be done. Free records, free help, and collaboration with other family members in any part of this world. This class is for everyone.


May Classes:   7th & 9th Immigration records "Put them in the boat and they'll go sailing . .." Come and learn how to locate and research Immigration records.This class is for everyone.

                       15Th & 16thBecome a Cemetery Expert! Yes, you! People take pictures of graves and put them on line. Yes, they really do and there is so much information you can obtain from these grave markers. Come and learn how to find these sites for information that you may not be able to get anywhere else. : NOTE These classes on these dates (15Th, 16th) will be held @ the Montrose Regional Library (320 South 2nd Street @ 6:30 pm) This class is for everyone.'



June Classes:  4th The English are coming! or not! 'Act I' Brief History of England explaining how records were created and used and Geography of shires. Everyone invited.

                        6th   The English are coming! or not! Act II Records Before Parish Registers (Probates, Tax Records, Court Records and Military Chapelaries)
2nd Hour - Records today -Deeds, Church Records (Parish), Histories, Landed Gentry and Nobility Records. This class is for everyone.
