Mohave County is a county of Arizona from 1864 to the present day. Mohave county was never a county of Nevada, however it covered land west of the Colorado River that later became part of Nevada.

  • 1864 - Mohave County was created from the 2nd Judicial District of Arizona.
  • 22 December 1865 - Pah-Ute County was created by Arizona out of the northwest part Mohave County.
  • 5 May 1866 - the part of Arizona south of the 37° north latitude and west of 114° west longitude down to the Colorado River was given to Nevada by the United States. [1] [2] All previous counties were discontinued and Nevada added the land to the southern parts of Lincoln and Nye counties.
  • Arizona opposed this loss of land and twice patitioned the US congress to reverse the law.
  • 18 February 1871 - Arizona discontinued Pah-Ute county. Finally accepting the loss of land to Nevada. The remainder of Pah-Ute County actually in Arizona was restored to Mohave county.
