Mohave County is a county of Arizona from 1864 to the present day. Mohave county was never a county of Nevada, however it covered land west of the Colorado River that later became part of Nevada.

In 1866, the part of Arizona south of the 37° north latitude and west of 114° west longitude down to the Colorado River was given to Nevada by the United States. [1] [2] All previous counties were discontinued and Nevada added the land to the southern parts of Lincoln and Nye counties.

  • 1864 - Mohave County was created from the 2nd Judicial District of Arizona.
  • 22 December 1865 - Pah-Ute County was created by Arizona out of the northwest part Mohave County.
  • 18 January 1867 - A large portion of Pah-Ute County and a smaller portion of Mohave county was given to southern Nevada. Arizona opposed this loss of land and twice patitioned the US congress to reverse the law, but finally accepted it.
  • 18 February 1871 - The remainder of Pah-Ute County was restored to Mohave county by Arizona.
