Abiqua Creek, rises on the west slope of the Cascade Range, and joins Pudding River about three miles northwest of Silverton. It was on the Abiqua Creek that a skirmish or battle was fought on Mar. 1848, and several Indians were killed. Thirty years later there was lively disagreement between various old timers who either minimized, maximized or equivocated the extent of the engagement and casulties. he name may have referred to a small tribe or to a camping place along the stream. The USBGN decided on the spelling of Abiqua.
