Madrid is a former town, now an unorganized territory (township) in the West Central townships in Franklin County, Maine. Madrid was settled about 1807, and incorporated as a town in 1836. Maine's first gold strike was here in 1854. Madrid disincorporated in the year 2000.
Other names: Township No. 1, First Range West of Bingham's Kennebec Purchase (T1 R1 WBKP).
Boundary Changes. In 1872 Madrid received an addition of territory from the Letter E Plantation (now Township E).
