History

Parent County

1846--Limestone County was created 11 April 1846 from Robertson County. County seat: Springfield 1846-1873; Groesbeck 1873-present.[1][2]

Boundary Changes

Record Loss

1873--Limestone County Courthouse at Springfield and most county records were destroyed by fire in October 1873.

1891--Limestone County Courthouse at Groesbeck destroyed by fire on February 1, 1891.  Records were stored in vaults and were not lost. [3]

1954--The Old Limestone County Courthouse, built in 1891, was destroyed by fire in May 1954. It had not been used as a courthouse since 1924, when the current courthouse was built.[4]
