1808--Licking County was created 30 January 1808 from Fairfield County. County seat: Newark [1]

Record Loss

The courthouse was on fire on 2 April 1875. The marriage records between 1829-1839 [2]were not available possibly lost completely in the fire. Some probate records also were burned in the fire. There are gaps in records for this county.[3]See Burned Counties.
