Title in the Language of the Records

Whenever possible, FamilySearch makes images available for all users. However, ultimate rights to view images on our website are granted by the record custodians. The Italy, Toscana, Civil Registration (State Archive) collection is available to the Family History Library, FamilySearch Centers, and to members of the supporting organization, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The images can be viewed at a FamilySearch Center near you.
Italian Data Privacy rules prohibit viewing the following records: All birth images must be 100 years or older; all marriage images must be 70 years or older, and all death images must be 70 years or older.
This collection contains civil registration (stato civile) of births, marriages, and deaths within the custody of the State Archive of Firenze (Archivio di Stato di Firenze).
For the most part, this collection contains records for the modern region of Tuscany (Toscana). Additional smaller portions of the collection are for the modern regions of Emilia-Romagna, Liguria, and Umbria. The provinces represented in the collection include the following:
- La Spezia
- Massa e Carrara
The availability of records is largely dependent on time period and locality.
The collection covers the years 1804 to 1874.

How to Use the Record
Fill in the requested information in the initial search page. This search will return a list of possible matches. Compare the information about the ancestors in the list to what you already know about your ancestors to determine if this is the correct family or person. You may need to compare the information about more than one person to find your ancestor.
Search the Collection
To search the collection image by image select "Browse through images" on the initial collection page

⇒ Select the “Comune o frazione” category
⇒ Select the “Registro e L'Anno” category which takes you to the images.
Look at the images one by one comparing the information with what you already know about your ancestors to determine which one is your ancestor. You may need to compare the information about more than one person to make this determination.
