History

1907--Hughes County was created 16 July 1907 from Creek Lands (Creek and Choctaw Lands).
County seat: Holdenville [2]

Description

Located in southeastern Oklahoma and Holdenville, the county seat. The county was named for W. C. Hughes, an Oklahoma City lawyer and member of the Oklahoma Constitutional Convention.[3] Hughes County, Oklahoma was founded in 1907. [4]
