FamilySearch This article describes the services and resources available at a Family History Center, a branch facility of the Family History Library.


The Greenwood South Carolina Family History Center services patrons researching their genealogy who live in Greenwood, Abbeville, McCormick, Newberry and other surrounding counties. Patrons with ancestry from the area who live in any part of the country can receive help via e-mail or Facebook. On 2 March 1897, Greenwood County was created from Abbeville and Edgefield Counties. Prior to 1785, the area was part of Ninety-Six District.

  • Mon 12pm-4pm
  • Wed 1pm-8pm (Closed every third Wednesday of the month)
  • Sat 11am-4pm
  • Sun 8am-9:30am and 1:30pm-4pm

A family history consultation is provided for each patron to identify useful resources and helpful training.  Also, the center is run by volunteer staff and is subject to closures. Please make an appointment to ensure someone is available to assist you: (864) 337-7931
