Genesee was discovered in 1872, the original town was located about a mile east of the present town. In 1888 the Spokane &amp; Palouse Railway way was extended to Genesee. Jacob Rosenstrin owned the town site and was given an exorbitant price for right -of- way and grounds. The railway built its terminus a mile west of the village, so the town was forced to move to the present location. It became some of the most productive farming land in the county.
