Revision as of 22:04, 22 November 2011

This is a project to help professional genealogists market themselves for free on FamilySearch Wiki.

FamilySearch Wiki will get you noticed

  • In 2009, FamilySearch Wiki is on schedule to attract twice as many visitors as the Family History Library, even without doing any marketing or integrating with FamilySearch.org.
  • FamilySearch Wiki will become a tab on FamilySearch.org in 2009, spiking traffic to the wiki.
  • In 2009, FamilySearch will begin large-scale marketing of the wiki. Read: more crazy spikes in traffic.
  • As of April 2009, FamilySearch Wiki gets 75% of its traffic from search engines.

Appropriate marketing on FamilySearch Wiki

  • Post your Professional Genealogy education (degree), Professional Genealogy competency-tested credentials, Professional Genealogy experience, Professional Genealogy (professionals-only membership) associations, Business License Compliance on your user page.
  • Attach sub-pages to your user page which include featured services, examples of client reports, and customer testimonials, continuing education in professional genealogy.

Inappropriate marketing on FamilySearch Wiki

  • Don't add an entry to a page like Ohio Vital Records that says "Joe Genius is a professional genealogist who does fee-based vital records lookups in Ohio vital records. Click here to go to his user page and see his services and fee schedule."

Want to help?

We're interested in collaborating with members of the professional community to figure out ways to enable marketing of a professional's services on the wiki. Sign up here if you'd like to help brainstorm ideas. You can also add your ideas to the Discussion page.

Sign up here by logging in, clicking the Edit link in the navigation bar, adding four tildes (~~~~) to the table below, and clicking Save.
